Fahrenheit 451 Essay

#1

In Fahrenheit 451 Ray Bradbury introduces us with 2 characters, call it what you will : important, supporting, etc. Their names Clarisse and Beatty. Ray Bradbury's tone for both characters are different.  Clarisse has a soft introduction, kid like. She's seen as a kind, curious person who's loves nature. As for Beatty it's the complete opposite. He's basically the antagonist of the story.

When we first meet clarisse we see how she relates to a kid, asking Montag multiple questions. As well we find out, her love about nature. " isn't this a nice time of night to walk? I like to smell things and look at things ....". Yet in Fahrenheit 451 everyone is the opposite of clarisse, they can't have advantages of one another and many don't even interact with each other. Clarisse does all that, she talks and interacts with her family, what we consider normal. Even Montag notices her uniqueness , " you think too much." Yet Ray Bradbury also labels her as "anti- social", maybe it's to differ her from society but Ray Bradbury still makes us acknowledge her as an important person , who is different but,  in a beautiful way, till her death.

Beatty on the other hand, is seen as bad person. Ray Bradbury tone for him is a bad, manipulative person. And montag also sees his true colors. After Clarisse had died Beatty comes and visits montag. Beatty goes on about how books are bad, and how it's useless and it just upsets people. Montag knowing/ wanting to know the truth about books etc. can't see Beatty as a friend but as a liar. And also the way he talks about montag as if he had something coming to him, " old montag wanted to fly near the sun and now that he's burnt his damn wings, he wonders why." This phrase I see an over confident person say just when something bad is going to happen to them.

So as you see Ray Bradbury uses different tones and diction with these two characters. And Clarisse and Beatty are the perfect example to see, since their obviously different types of characters. Ray Bradbury as well could have used diction and tone for other characters and the these two characters are quite a clearly example of that.
